“O Allah, Your servant and the son of Your female servant, is in need of Your mercy, but You are not in need of punishing him. If he was righteous, then increase his rewards; and if he was sinful, then forgive his sins.
O Allah, indeed so-and-so, son of so-and-so, is under Your protection and the shelter of Your care. Thus, protect him from the trials of the grave and the punishment of the hellfire. You are the One who fulfils promises and grants rights. Therefore, forgive him and have mercy upon him. Indeed, You are the All-Forgiving, the Bestower of mercy.
O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those present and those absent, our young and our old, our menfolk and our womenfolk. O Allah, whoever among us You keep alive, let them live upon Islam, and whoever among us You cause to die, let them die upon Iman. O Allah, do not deprive us of the reward related to their death and funeral, and do not lead us astray after them.
Oh Allah, forgive him, have mercy upon him, protect him from harms and punishment, and pardon him. Be generous to him, expand for him his grave, and wash him of his sins with water, snow and hail. Purify him of his misdeeds just as white cloth is purified and cleansed of stains. Grant him an abode in the hereafter that is better than his home, a family that is better than his family, and a wife that is better than his wife. Enter him into Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave [as well as the punishment of the hellfire].
